COME WITH US FOR A FEW BEERS!...
PUBS IN PRAGUE
If you are visiting the Czech Republic, you certainly cannot miss tasting the Czech beer.
There is nothing easier than to enter one of Prague’s restaurants or little pubs and wet one’s
whistle with a bedewet jug of beer. Pubs are as common in Prague as they are in London and
Munich, and as important to Czechs as cafés are to the French. For hundreds of years, Prague’s
pubs have engaged in a war of pride, each vying to serve the best beer. Although each pub
serves only one or two kinds of beer, the quality of the beer served is almost always high.
THE MOST...
- The oldest brewery in Bohemia was reportedly established in 1118
in Cerhenice near Kolín (no documentation).
- The largest beer producer in the Czech Republic is Plzeňský
Prazdroj /Pilsner Urquell/ (it produced 4 753 999 hl of beer in 1999).
- The strongest beer in the Czech Republic is brewed in the Náchod
brewery; it is a special dark beer "Primátor"; 24 % Double (alc. vol
10 %).
- In 1999, the Czech Republic had largest /recalculated/ consumption
of beer worldwide
/159, 7 liters per capital/.
- The largest Czech exporter of beer is Budweiser Budvar N. C. - its
exports exceed 30 %
of total Czech exports.
- 10 - degree beer is most popular in the Czech Republic.
- The best selling Czech brand is Gambrinus.
